They show who we truly are. The genuine eccentricities and attributes of an individual can really be comprehended by what he jumps at the chance to peruse, as Mathew Kelly brought up that, â€Å"We become the books we read.† Books are likewise an extraordinary wellspring of joy and solace. The second we open a book and begin staying in its reality, we feel as though everything around us has stopped to exist. Perusing gives us the sole mode by which we slip unwittingly, automatically and regularly powerlessly into another person’s soul and unearth the universe of his creative mind where everything has been made by him. It transports us to new places, acquaints us with stunning individuals who lived energizing lives, they move us to HOGWARTS with J.K.ROWLING, to NARNIA with C.S.LEWIS, to BAYPORT with FRANKLIN W.DIXON, to RIVERHEIGHTS with CAROLYNE KEENE, to MAGICAL FORESTS with ENID BLYTON and to the Center OF THE EARTH with JULES VERNE. These spots are more than regularly only a fantasy of the writer’s creative mind yet to a peruser every little thing about them appears to be genuine, he wish that he can be shipped to the universe he had always wanted and carry on with the existence he wishes to live. He can visit every one of these spots while sitting on an agreeable love seat by the fire alongside an appealing bite. As of now he sees that there is no joy like perusing and eating. Furthermore, best of all, both of them can be consolidated serenely. As Jane Austen proclaims that, â€Å"There is no happiness like reading.† We probably won't notice this however we in reality live the tales we are perusing, each character has a particular voice in our mind alongside a fitting appearance. In the eye of our psyche we see them moving and hear them talking while we read about them. A peruser lives the lives of around a thousand people before he kicks the bucket yet non-peruser lives a solitary exhausting and dull life. Books are a special wellspring of versatile enchantment which we can convey anyplace we need to. It causes us to enter happy harmony and helps us to learn and appreciate the mysteries and concealed realities of the universe by giving our brains something worth mulling over. Any place we are, in the event that we have a book with us we needn't bother with any organization. We can simply sink into the pages and be extremely glad. As Elizabeth Scott sees that, â€Å"I love books! I love that second when you open one book and sink into it. You can escape from the world and sink into a story that’s way more intriguing than yours will ever be.† Reading is dreaming with open eyes. We don't need to fundamentally have confidence in all the fiction and enchantment of the books we need to realize that it’s false. Be that as it may, it creates a universe of imagination which assists with widening our vision and increment our creative mind. Nothing will help u as much as reading.’ At the point when we step inside a library, the main thing we feel is the smell of old materials, the aroma of ink, we hear the stir of paper and as of now we accept that this fragrance of books is the best fragrance on the planet. At the point when we breathe in profoundly and peruse through the various segments we experience a sense so mystical that it can never be communicated in words, and otherworldly doesn't simply mean powerful or sorcerous yet incorporates secret, rush, and happiness, which causes us to feel brilliant and energized. At the point when we close our eyes and just touch a recognizable book and draw its scent somewhere inside us, it is sufficient to make us glad and satisfied. Stephen King claims that, ‘Books are a particularly versatile magic.’ Perusing is extremely important to keep us resuscitated, new and empowered. Guessing is as important to thoughts as exercise is to our body. They resuscitate us when we feel as though all entryways of life are shut. They help us to get away from our burdens and enter another spot, an alternate time. At these occasions we feel as though there is no companion as faithful as a book. We don’t need to trust every one of our privileged insights to it. And still, at the end of the day it can give consolation which is required without question. Along these lines, on the off chance that we genuinely need to get away from the world we open a book and utilize our creative mind. JK ROWLING declares that, â€Å"There is consistently space for a story that can ship individuals toanother place† On the off chance that an individual doesn't care to peruse books this for the most part implies that he has not yet discovered the correct book to suit his taste and character, as it is inconceivable for any learned individual with great premiums to despise books, since great perusers make much out of pretty much nothing and still think that its short. As per JANE AUSTEN, â€Å"If a book is elegantly composed I generally discover it short† Sometimes there are affirmations certainties and realities which can't be clarified in typical composing however a fictious book suitably clarifies them, with such nuance that the peruser barely sees that he has gotten them. Furthermore, they become some portion of his existence without his watching the change. RALPH WALDO EMERSON demands that, â€Å"Fiction uncovers reality that reality obscures† We don't have to get theory, gain proficiency with a unique expertise or realize a craftsmanship to perceive a decent book nor do we have to scan hard for it, we know when we have a decent book we become retained and completely fascinated in it. At the point when we turn the last page and feel that we have lost a dear companion. As though something significant has been annihilated, lost or expelled. Sources Of Energy Renewable Energy Essay - 2238 Words

Sources of energy 1- Renewable energy Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources—such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat—which are renewable (naturally replenished). Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity/micro hydro, biomass and biofuels for transportation. Renewable energy is energy that is generated from natural processes that are continuously replenished. This includes sunlight, geothermal heat, wind, tides, water, and various forms of biomass. This energy cannot be exhausted and is constantly renewed. 2- Non-renewable energy Alternative energy is a term used for an energy source that is an alternative to using fossil fuels. Generally, it indicates energies that are non-traditional and have low environmental impact. The term alternative is used to contrast with fossil fuels according to some sources. By most definitions alternative energy doesn t harm the environment, a distinction which separates it from renewable energy which may or may not have significant environmental impact. Types of energy 1- Solar Energy The sun is probably the most important source of renewable energy available today. Corporate Strategy Formulation and Implementation †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Corporate Strategy Formulation and Implementation. Answer: Introduction: A sustainable competitive advantage happens when an entity outperforms its competitors by having a quality or set of additional qualities. This generally happens in the monopolistic market where there exists competition in the market. In simple words it can be explained as something that places an entity or an individual above its competitors These characteristics can include access to materials or substances occurring in nature or access to having highly trained staff or workforce(Amadeo, 2017). Competitive advantage is a key source of high performance, and ensures better standing in the market place. Performing better than the competitors is the ultimate goal of the organization as higher profits leads to higher position goodwill in the market. This will also give an advantage to become the leader in the market How an industry outperforms depends upon its nations competitiveness. The firms excel and perform better than its competitors just because of pressure and challenge. They get financial reward from having challenging home based suppliers and domestic rivals. Current competitive advantage is rapidly changing. Corporate Entrepreneurship is no doubt a risky proposition. New segments set up by existing business face challenges in accepting the market conditions. The unique features face the following challenges i.e. emerging business usually lack hard data, financial forecast are also undependable . The third challenge is poor fit between new businesses and old system. New ventures normally operate in highly ambiguous environment, so a strategy should be developed by trial and error. Competitive Advantage can be better explained with the help of a diagrammatic representation: Main aspects of Competitive Advantage: The competition between two existing sellers in the market Likely threat of New entrants Threat of Multiple substitutes available for one product Negotiation done by the consumer(Porter, 2008) Negotiation done by the suppliers/vendors Key Success factors and Competitive Advantage: Key success factors are the majorly the areas, where better performance and high profits will make it certain that competitive advantage can be achieved and can result into individual growth and business excellence. There is no organization which can afford to make a strategy which fails to pay heed to the principal factors, which play the main role in determining the success of the organization(Porter, 2011). Also a company must develop accomplishments on its industry key features, if it has to be a leader in the market. A core competency mainly covers: Focus on customer benefit It is hard for competitors to compete Building products with new design and technology(McGranth, 2013) It is clear in todays world that if the company is not proficient in one particular activity it can outsource the same so that the business performance does not suffer. For example in the automobile Industry lets take an example of Volvo which focuses on safety as its core competency, so it will keep its focus on research and development of high safety components. It can be illustrated with diagram: Good Sustainability practices help companies gain competitive advantage. It is a very old saying that if you dont have competitive advantage dont compete Jack Welch Why companies like Apple and Mitsubishi are so successful in the modern era? It resolves issues and alternatives Stakeholders are better performers Top management to guide and help in decision making Effectiveness of strategy implementation Lets quote an example to explain competitive advantage better: There are two players in the market who makes cup cakes i.e. classic and Nic bakers. Classic makes the cup cakes at the cost of Rs 25 and sells it for Rs 100, while Nic makes the cup cake at the cost of Rs 60 and sells it for Rs 120. Classic earns more than Nic and uses better ingredients to make the cup cake i.e strategies that both follow are different. Hence it is very clear from the above situation that Classic would get more customers and earn more profits than the competitor(Coles, 2003). Why might Organic (or Internal) development be recommended as an appropriate method for strategic development? Organic Growth Strategy implies increasing company performance and profits using its own power and resources. This methodology is slower than other processes, but incurs less cost comparatively. This method is beneficial for small enterprises that want to widen their business but dont have large amount of funds/capital to expand(Riley, 2010). Internal Development states, strategic considerations developed and articulated for expanding various segments of the business. An enterprise develops its own strategy to up sell in the market. Benefits of Internal Growth strategy It helps the business to grow at a uniform rate Funding options are more easier i.e. surplus profits can be used for expansion It is less risky The higher the market share, the more easier it can control the price of its products It is relatively low in price(Johnson., 2008) Better control and co-ordination Risks associated with Internal Growth Strategy Restructuring is the missing element Takes more time to achieve growth Likely to lose capital investment Slow growth Difficulties in building market share i.e. where firm is already a leader Here are some examples of businesses that have flourished with Internal Growth: Dominos a leading Pizza seller have flourished its business by opening multiple outlets in every city. Also no of Pizzas sold during the day have increased as it serves quality and also at a cheaper rate than other competitors in the market(Bowhill, 2008). Apple, as one of the most valuable brands in the world has adopted intensive strategies to excel in the market. It has developed wide range of new products like I-Pad to develop and expand worldwide An Ice-cream maker Mackies of Scotland has increased profits of the organization and expanded its business to other countries basis Internal Growth Strategy. The strategies used by the biggest Ice-cream seller are stated below: Introduction of New flavors in the market Increased Investment in Infrastructure(Evans, 2015) Selecting best market route for expansion Achieving operational efficiencies and cost benefit through procuring economies of scale Because it is a niche market, higher price can be charged Risks involved in making it a success: Slow growth and expansion due to limited resources Time consuming in building substitutes of products Lack in targeting better focused customers Lack of highly skilled staff Michael Porter a graduate of Harvard University, wrote a book on different strategies that can help in gaining competitive advantage in the year 1985. All firms can make use of these approaches i.e. whether Product Based or Service Based. He named the strategies as Generic Strategies. Listed below are the major strategies encountered in the business: Discuss the contrasting characteristics and objectives of a Cost Leadership Strategy and a Differentiation Strategy? Characteristics and Objectives of a Cost Leadership Strategy and Differentiation Strategy The terminology Cost leadership was introduced by Michael Porter and utilized in building up business strategies. Cost leadership basically means lowering the per unit cost of operation (i.e. production cost) in order to achieve competitive advantage(Hitt, 2016) and reduce production cost below the industry average. Ways in which cost can be controlled: Control Cost drivers: Cost can be controlled by driving down the cost of various activities to be performed. It also includes effectively working on the cost segments, by performing better than its competitors. Revive Value Chain: Making new innovations in building new products, improving technology, using low cost material can help to revamp Value chain (Hiriyappa., 2013) Differentiation strategy is a way under which an enterprise proposes to build and sell unique products in the market for different segments of customer. This strategy helps those enterprises who can afford expensive advertising campaign. Steps taken to build a successful Differentiation Strategy: Scientific Research with best features: Successful adoption of new methods and programmes through detailed research and marketing strategies will help in successful business Skilled and Innovative Workforce: When a company has intellectual and innovative workforce it can help in winning the customers and develop new products Better sales force: If the strategies adopted by the company are in synchronization, and the sales executives are able to explain their products in a better manner Goodwill: When an enterprise has better goodwill in the market and can showcase its products better than its competitors then it is a win-win in situation for the company(Ireland, 2008). Focus Strategy as the name suggests, keeps its centric point on Specific group of customers rather than focusing on everyone. Its main need is Customer satisfaction and improvement in already existing products which can help in improving their daily lives. Feedback is taken from the customers from time to time. Cost Leadership Strategy and Differentiation Strategy can be better explained with the help of a diagram: Michael Porter, who established these competitive strategies, has explained it very well which strategy to opt for as per ones business requirements. A cost leadership strategy focuses on price parameter. The main goal to adopt this strategy is to become a leader in the market i.e. having maximum share across the industry Differential strategy on the other hand focuses on building new products in the market which can be differentiated from competitors products i.e. should vary in features, technology, and customer service and distribution channels So to conclude Porter suggested that both the strategies are equally effective and serves the organization at its best but choosing the right kind of strategy should be the main objective. An enterprise should hang in the middle i.e. in order to generate huge profits its builds products which are cost effective and neglects the other things which are required to make an organization successful. The situation can be well explained with the help of the diagram: Refer to the matrix attached to explain the cost leadership vs. differentiation strategy. In the matrix if we refer to the 4th cubicle i.e. cost leadership it explains market leader position in the market. This can be adopted by an organization where cost effectiveness plays an important role. With time as the company matures, this strategy can give company under performance so in order to survive in the market an enterprise should replace with better technology and scrap old material and assets. In cube 2 which is a combination of low cost and high differentiation is another substitute. If an organization has low production cost and high degree of differentiation, then it can achieve high share of profit margins having the benefit of low cost. Other scenario in the same situation is if the company is not the market leader in cost but provides differentiated products then it can win if its customers are willing to pay more for the Value added product. The major drawback of this situation is over a period of time when premium customers tend to shift to low priced products, then this strategy cannot fit in the existing environment Where the above two strategies fail it can be replaced with cube 1 i.e. Market Niche, where the company focuses of single segment or product, with high cost and differentiated from all the other substitutes available in the market. This strategy is mainly fruitful for businesses who can afford high cost. For example car manufacturers i.e. Volkswagen, Porsche How do Porter (1980) and Bowman (1995) differ in their view on combining these approaches to competitive strategy? The main purpose of a cost leadership strategy is to achieve low production cost per unit, thereby obtaining advantage over other competitors in the industry. Adopting such strategy results into offering best featured product to the customer at low cost as per his/her needs or requirements. This helps a firm in maximizing its profits and become a market leader in the industry. This can be explained with the help of an example i.e. there are 4 major players in the market providing tariff packs, Data packs and other recharge options to the customer. Seeing from the customer prospective, he would prefer a product which has the quality network and the one which is provided at low cost and maximum benefits. Companies adopting cost strategy should not forget the other key factors which play an important role in order to survive i.e. product quality, design service etc There are many risks interlinked with this strategy i.e. while focusing on cost per unit at times company forgets about the technology, new innovative methods to be adopted which will result in eradication of all savings done in the product to become the market leader. For example Ola Cabs vs. Taxi. The customer preferences and tastes keeps changing with time so in order to be successful one must adopt the principle of winning the customer On the other hand differentiation strategy main aim lies in building products with multiple qualities, which are well considered by the customer, keeping in mind the uniqueness of the product. Differentiation strategy focuses more on customer demands and choices and builds a product from customer prospective. Companies following differentiation strategy invest more in a product and makes product keeping in mind the priorities of the customers needs. For adopting this strategy lot of research and development is required so that at the end, the results are good. Example of Differentiation strategy is Volkswagen a car manufacturer. To adopt this strategy a company should have a good reputation and existence in the market place. A recent framework developed states that, one should adopt single strategy at one time (as Porter explains) do not get stuck in the middle. Whereas Bowman puts pressure on Hybrid strategy which is a combination of perceived added advantage and gaining market share The major drawback of this strategy is at times focusing on customer needs can lead to lose sight of cost development Porter likely is of the point of view that both the strategies cannot be adopted at same time as this would result in reduced performance and higher costs. He entreats that companies should compete either on price or differentiated product. For example Reliance Gio or Patanjali with cost effective products and on the other hand Harley Davidson/Audi with differentiation strategy In order to combine both the strategies strong emphasis should be on both delivering unique quality products and low cost products. Implementation of both the strategies all together will lead to better organizational performance and business excellence Conclusion: Hence we can conclude that we can simultaneously adopt two strategies which are termed as Hybrid strategy. This strategy depends on the ability to deliver best quality products with cheaper cost also. It will help in attaining sufficient margins for re-investment and maintain a good place in the market. In the era of global competition this strategy is best suited for organizations. Under exceptional circumstances, a hybrid strategy can be adopted as agreed by Porter. Yet Bowmans strategy fails to survive in these conditions. Also it can be supported that Bowmans model is biased on gaining maximum market share Thus competitive advantage states that over- performance from other competitors in the market with better features to compete within the industry. So in order to have stable sustainable development one needs to come up with new ideas to survive for long term within the industry. Bibliography Amadeo, K., 2017. thebalance.com. Mrs Birling did not feel guilty at all for her decision even after having learnt about the suicide. She felt her decision was justified and that all the blame should be passed on to the Father. Unfortunately for Mrs Birling the father was Eric. Eric had met her when he had had quit a bit to drink. He threatened to make a fuss if he wasnt aloud in her room. Much later he was to discover that he was the father of her unborn baby. He offered to marry her but she refused saying that he didnt love her. He then offered her money but she refused, suspecting it to be stolen. She then went to Mrs Birling for help. Each person in the family had something to do with the suicide. Mr Birling started it off by firing her from the factory. Sheila made her lose her job out of jealousy. Gerald used her and told her to leave when it suited him. Eric got her pregnant but couldnt support her properly. Mrs Birling refused to give her help. All of them did something but they cant forget that Eva Smith has her own mind, and must help herself. In such a conservative time you couldnt depend on everybody to help you. Mr Birling although starting it off, I think was least responsible. Although he fired Eva Smith, he did have a reason. If you wanted to get a rise and threatened a strike then there is a high risk of getting fired. I think although Sheila also got Eva Smith fired from Milwards, Eva could have looked somewhere else for a job, and not depended on Gerald so much. I also think Gerald did what he could. Eva Smith could have looked for a job while leaving in the apartment that Gerald was looking after, she even mentioned that she knew she was going to get thrown out soon. Eric I think was most responsible for Eva Smiths death, although offering marriage and money, it was his fault for her getting pregnant. Mrs Birling although refused to give Eva Smith money, did not really know the position Eva was in. At the end of the play the family discover the inspector is not an official police inspector. I think that whoever the Inspector is, he is a strong socialist. .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af , .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .postImageUrl , .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af , .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af:hover , .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af:visited , .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af:active { border:0!important; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af:active , .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9cc5548319f07f1e1612637cdf1147af:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Eddie calls the immigration officials EssayHe says One Eva Smith has gone but there are millions of Eva Smiths and John Smiths their lives all inter wined with our lives we are members of one body. We are responsible for each other. This totally contradicts with what the conservative Mr Birling says near the beginning of the play the way these cranks talk, youd think everybody has to look after everybody else a man has to mind his own business and look after himself. So although I couldnt say who I thought the inspector was exactly I would guess a political agitator, to make this wealthy family think of their consequences.

Intersection of gender and race in the labor market essay

Intersection of gender and race in the labor market essay Intersection of gender and race in the labor market essay Intersection of gender and race in the labor market essayThe issue of income inequality has a significant impact on the functioning and well-being of the American society (Ryscavage, 1999). The presence of income inequality undermines the development of democracy (Noah, 2013), leads to the decrease of the overall level of health in the society (Mink OConnor, 2004) and leads to higher mortality rates (Gilbert, 2008). For example, Kawachi, Kennedy, Lochner Prothrow-Stith (1997) show that income inequality reduces social capital and social cohesion, contributes to the decline of social trust and is positively correlated with high mortality rates.Nowadays income inequality in the United States is increasing (Rezvani Pirouz, 2013). According to West Coast Poverty Center (2014), the results of ranking the U.S. population according to income and dividing it into five equally sized groups show that the richest group earned about 44% of total income in 1980s and 50% in 2010. These data cle arly illustrate that income inequality is growing.Key factors contributing to such tendency are globalization, demographic changes, changes in income composition and the weakening role of labor unions (Rezvani Pirouz, 2013). Furthermore, Kitov and Kitov (2013) determined that income inequality for the youngest age group (15-24) was increasing over time. Hence, studying income inequality and its impact on different social groups is a viable research topic. It is important to identify social groups which are most affected by income inequality and to assist these groups by the relevant legislation and social policies.Empirical evidenceThere is a notable increase of income inequality in the United States which is witnessed at least since 1970s (Walker, Spohn DeLone, 2011). Income inequality is most frequently measured by Gini coefficient which changed from 0.394 in 1970 to 0.403, 0.428 and 0.462 in 1980, 1990 and 2000 (Reardon Bischoff, 2011).Cotter, Hermsen Vanneman (1999) explore the probability for representatives of different social groups (combinations of race/ethnicity and gender) to earn an income higher than the income of the corresponding percentile of white men. The authors find that this probability is lower for all other social groups (women, African American men, Hispanic men, Asian men). In particular, the groups for which earning an income comparable with white men is most difficult are Hispanic women, African American women, Hispanic men and Asian women. Asian men and white women belong to the relatively successful groups, while African American men might have to work harder to earn a comparable income, but they still have a decent chance (Cotter, Hermsen Vanneman, 1999).Theoretical ArgumentAccording to the research of Banerjee Yakovenko (2010), the major cause of income inequality is the increase of income of the top earning households. Furthermore, Banerjee Yakovenko (2010) find analogies between the dynamics of income inequality and energ y consumption and argue that globalization contributes to the development of income inequality and inequality of energy consumption.Reardon Bischoff (2011) explore the patterns of income segregation for different social groups; the authors find that there is a significant relationship between income segregation (unequal geographic distribution of income) and income inequality, and such relationship is stronger for black households compared to white households.Svizzero and Tisdell (2003) explore the causes of within-group income inequality and find that the less evident causes of such inequality emerge due to the differences in innate abilities, to the changes of demand for particular skills and to the decentralization of wage system. According to the findings of Schneider (2013), within-group income inequality notably increased among white men, while for black and Hispanic workers the changes of within-group inequality were minor. Such findings allow to conclude that the major caus e of the inequality for minorities is primarily caused by group differences (gender and race/ethnicity) rather than by macro factors such as globalization.Statement of Hypotheses In this research, there are three major hypotheses. Hypothesis 1: Among U.S. working adults, differences in income level exist between genders. Hypothesis 2: Among U.S. working adults, differences in income level exist between different races/ethnicities. Hypothesis 3: Among U.S. adults, differences in income level exist between the different social locations created by race/ethnicity and gender.Basing on the preliminary analysis of sources devoted to studying income inequality, it is possible to assume that there exists gender-based income inequality and income inequality related to race/ethnicity. Therefore, the initial assumption is that both Hypothesis 1 and Hypothesis 2 are correct. Furthermore, it is assumed that there are specific social locations for which income level difference is statistically si gnificant, i.e. that Hypothesis 3 also holds. The analysis of gender and race/ethnicity inequality will help to identify social groups that are most vulnerable to income inequality.

Construction; Roof and Intermediate Floors Essay

Construction; Roof and Intermediate Floors - Essay Example The roof covering may be metal sheets, wooden shingles, tiles, slates or slab itself. In this type of roof, steel bars and concrete are used to form a roof. Before construction, the thickness of slab, beam and reinforcement needs to be determined based on the span and loading conditions. This type of roof best suits the construction of the intermediate floor. The balance and strength needed for the support of an entire floor is made easy with this flat roof. Since the roof in question has a wide span it cannot be constructed with rafters alone. The roof has to be constructed with a structure comprising of frames known as trusses. The following illustration shows the general structure of such a roof. Houses of now are a lot better insulated because they have doors, windows and roofs which fit tightly and keep the temperature controllable. The air inside the house is kept warm by means of various techniques of circulating the air. A distinction is made on the type of roof based on the temperature it can keep. When the air inside the house remains warm it is known as a hot roof and vice versa. A hot roof allows for the air cavities to freeze and refreeze the snow or ice and in the process taking on the heat. The circulation of air into and out of the building must be moderated by an appropriate structural design. To assure this the construction has been fitted with â€Å"Quilt roof insulation between the† Joists. The housing structure is equipped with 75x50 wall plate with 30x2.5x600c/c girth galvanized m/s wall anchors nailed to block walls @1000 c/c (between windows) with 150 deep strip of XPM filled over plate as plaster key. Heavy horizontal beams or steel lintels are pressed 225mm deep to support the structure and roof. To accommodate for adequate insulation 75 thick c/s screed topping is placed on a 12mm polystyrene slab. (Simon Ã…  ilih, Miroslav Premrov and Stojan Kravanja, Faculty of Civil

CAPSTONE PROJECT Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

CAPSTONE PROJECT - Essay Example In our class, we were about 10 black students out of the total 70 students. Three girls and six boys. ‘Tell us your name,’ I remember that was the first question our history teacher asked when I was introduced as a new pupil (Manning 109). She was white, buxom, and motherly, but wearing horn-rimmed glasses that she would tilt in such an intimidating way if one did not answer her questions in class. ‘It is the white man who has made the black person who he is today.’ I remember I felt bad. It was an awkward moment. My father, a cotton picker, had affirmed in me that my race had an exciting history because we African Americans came from a placed he called Africa (Hamlett 167). The following lesson, I decided to ask questions if the teacher talked about the black people again (Caldwell 156). Encouraged by the rage I had seen in my mother last night, when Mrs. Stewart came and abused black people again, I

The Daughters of Catulle Mendes Pierre Auguste Renoir Essay

The Daughters of Catulle Mendes Pierre Auguste Renoir - Essay Example So for a student who does research on art the Museum is the best choice to select paintings for the work of thesis. The Museum has devoted a separate branch especially for the art and architecture of medieval Europe. It has the collection of both the domestic architectural elements and religious architectural elements that range from a period of 12th century to about 15 centuries back. This building with the cloistered gardens is located at the Fort Tryon Park in the upper Manhattan. The mostly highlighted things in the Cloisters are the treasures of sculptures, tapestries, ivories, stained glass, illuminated manuscripts, goldsmith's and silversmith's work and enamels. Cezannes Astonishing Apples - this is a painting painted by a French artist in which a few apples on a tablecloth and a flower vase with flowers could be seen. The astonishing fact here is when the painting is seen from a distance apples look alike but when seen through a magnifying glass no two apples are same. Each and every apple is different from other one. Sphinx of Senwosret III - This belongs to the period of 18This belongs to the period of early eighteenth century to late eighteen century of Before Christ period. It is possessed by the twelfth Dynasty of the Middle Egyptian Kingdom. A Terracotta Calyx - This belongs to five hundred and fifteen century of Before Christ. ... The Italy government gave this piece. Human headed winged lion and winged bull - It belonged to the period of 883-859 B.C about three thousand years ago this was possessed by the King of Ashurnasirpal II, of Assyrian empire for which Nimud was made capital which is now called as Iraq . This image was considered as the guardian and was placed before the palace. The people entering the palace passed from between the legs of the lion which has five legs. Renoir born on 1845 February 25 and died on December 3 1919 was a French artist who contributed greatly to the movement of Impressionism. The movement is about the artists were not allowed to conduct exhibitions privately. They have to give their paintings to the official salon. Renoir gave some of his paintings to the salon and also at he same time dared to conduct exhibitions privately. He was very innovative and always experimented with his work and brought out new methods of paintings with which the work looked exclusively special. The paintings of Renoir give an impression that the figure in the image is coming out of the image, as though the sunrays are falling on the hats or window, as though there is so much delight in the life of a women or the one portrayed, as though some thing special is hidden in them. The freshness and the openness make us feel divine for a moment and we feel are we in the heaven where there is nothing but joy. One must have an artistic heart to understand the art. Renoir's paintings when viewed, I learned that he frequently painted the landscapes along with other artists of impressionism. He imitated other artists like Cezanne, with small parallel strokes of brush. It is also observed that he was fairly capable enough of painting landscapes but failed

The Benefits of Aerobic, Resistance and Balance Exercises in the Geriat

Functionality means individual capabilities to carry out activities of daily life in a harmless and self-regulating way without being fatigue. Physical inactivity invites various problems in elderly individuals. The reasons of immobility in elderly people are poor health, hospitalization, and disability that reduce body’s muscle mass1. At the age of 50 years, minor reduction in muscle strength occurs and after the age of 65 years each decade it reduces 12% to 15% 2 .The study mentions that â€Å"Loss of muscle mass, particularly of fast-twitch or Type II fibers that accompany advanced age, is associated with muscle weakness, increased fatigability, and a loss of functional independency†1. Decreased muscle strength in elderly people which includes reduced muscle mass (atrophy) and decreased capacity to produce enough force that indirectly affects their ADL.1 Hence, Strength training plays an important role in elderly fitness programs. Impaired balance is major cause of f alls in elderly individuals and it is necessary to implement balance exercise in their daily life. As people get older, their aerobic capacity is reduced which is responsible for cardiac, pulmonary, and peripheral disease so, aerobic exercise helps geriatric people to improve their aerobic capacity.4 Need assessment: Older individuals suffer from various diseases like diabetes, heart diseases and stroke. According to National Diabetes Fact sheet (2011), â€Å"26.9% or 10.9 million of all people in age 65 years or older had diabetes in 2010†5. An Analysis of “1984” by Orson Welles Essay

Back during the time of World War II, paranoia swept across the globe. Hitler, brainwashing thousands of people into fighting for him, nearly defeated all who opposed him. Had he succeeded in his mission, a fascist government system would have formed, greatly inhibiting the rights and privileges of the general populace. George Orwell wrote 1984 to demonstrate the horror this system would bring. Using setting, characters, and conflict, Orwell uses this book to portray the theme of raw, unrefined humanity, and its ability to rise above a corrupt and confining evil of an enemy. Orwell distorts the idea of Utopia, an ideal society where human beings live a perfect existence, and creates a fictional setting in which life is extremely bad from oppression, deprivation of rights, and terror. Fear is used as a tool for manipulating and controlling individuals, and nearly every positive feeling is squelched. The world is divided into three political countries: Oceania, Eastasia, and Eurasia. Each of these states is ruled by a totalitarian government and is constantly warring on multiple fronts. Using the terrifying atmosphere of the archaic world, Orwell creates the illusion that Winston has nowhere to escape the oppression. Winston is forced to live within his present circumstances; able to change where he lives, yet unable to change how he lives. Oceania’s political structure contained three segments: the ruling class, the educated workers, and the working class. Orwell, being a socialist, realized that with class distinctions came class struggle. The ruling class, consisting of the wealthy and powerful, was only two percent of the population. In Hitler’s Germany, the very few people who were considered part of the ruling class had a more luxurious lifestyle that the masses, yet in this nation, as in 1984, revolt was inevitable. The conflict between Winston and O’Brien is another way Orwell shows how a society can try to brainwash a person into believing the impossible. For instance, O’Brien wants Winston to believe that two plus two is five, going  against all the laws of mathematics Winston has studied all his life. O’Brien is one of the top leaders in the Inner Party, and may even be part of a hive that creates the idea of Big Brother. When O’Brien reveals himself as a representative of the Party and all of its contradictions and cruelty, Winston discards all feelings of friendship and suddenly becomes his enemy. This action directly relates to the theme in how if humanity is confronted with evil, every ounce of effort will be used to resist. Doublethink, the ability to hold two opposing ideas in someone’s mind at the same time, is forced into Winston by O’Brien, only confusing him further. If only Winston had accepted the doctrines of the Party, his life would have been spared. Instead, Winston is murdered because of his individuality, ensuring the inability to spread his idealistic views to the public, hungry for freedom and escape from oppression. Winston Churchill was the exalted leader of England during World War II. One must consider why Orwell gives the name â€Å"Winston Smith† to his main character. The name Winston stands for the individuality, uniqueness, and greatness of the character, while Smith stands for the regularity of such a person. In the failing governmental system in 1984, even the greatest person can be shoved aside and told to work in a menial job, negating all hope of ever reaching his full potential. Because Winston is so common, so real, it is easy to identify with him and to imagine being in his shoes. Winston embodies the values of a civilized society: peace, freedom, democracy, love, and decency. When Winston is killed, these things are destroyed with him. He represents the struggle between good and evil, and there is no mistaking where the lines are drawn. A Totalitarian government does not permit these characteristics in their citizens, therefore insisting upon Winston’s death. George Orwell wrote about 1984 in 1948, and the ideals he introduced can still be applied in the present. Although Winston dies at the end, Orwell is trying to show the stubbornness of human nature. We cannot forget that above all, individuality must be expressed, or the common man will have no reason, or desire, to live.

Questions On Personal Ethical Framework - 1203 Words

Before I begin to share my personal ethical framework I want to first state how difficult this process has been. Through the course of class, I have discovered that evaluating yourself if leaps and bounds more difficult than evaluating others, well at least it was for me. The course readings have been very influential, and very telling as it relates to building my own ethical framework. While I feel personally that I naturally was drawn to the Frankl reading, I was caught off guard in realizing that my ethical framework had also been influenced by the Palmer text. After thoughtful deliberation and reflection I decided to use the acronym of C.A.R.E. to present my personal ethical framework. C-Create community to build humanity A-Always have faith, hope, love and a willingness to serve others R-Raise up the next generation of leaders E-Encourage people to follow their dreams I chose C.A.R.E. as the word itself expresses part of my ethical framework, and each piece ties in to that particular ethic. First I will discuss the â€Å"C† or Creating community to build humanity. The Frankl book, â€Å"Man’s Search for Meaning† really brought this aspect alive for me. In the book Viktor Frankl spends time, effort and energy building community, amid the Germans attempt to destroy any effort at humanity. Frankl was successful in building community and it helped to sustain and keep humanity intact.
